#StopKillingCyclists Vigil & DieIn: Bank, City of London Mon 29 Jun 5:30p Re: crash involving HGV and bicycle http://stopthekilling.org.uk/direct-actions/vigil-and-die-in-bank-of-england-city-of-london/

UPDATE: The London Cycling Campaign is having a flash-ride at 8:30am on Wednesday 24 June 2015 at Bank. See the LCC website for details.

What is this about?

It is with huge regret that Stop Killing Cyclists will be holding the 7th vigil and die in on Monday 29th June 2015 to remember a woman killed while riding her bike at Bank; and Clifton James who was killed in Harrow.

She is the 8th person riding a bike killed on London’s roads, the 6th woman and the seventh killed by a lorry.

The 26 year old female victim was killed on Monday 22 June 2015 after being hit by an HGV at the junction by the Bank of England.

It is a horrendous junction - 7 major and 2 minor roads merge there, meaning no matter how good the driving or cycling its a nightmare - with absolutely no sensible provision for cyclists and even pedestrians poorly looked after.

At least 3 of these roads needs to be closed to through traffic and made over for the huge numbers of pedestrians and cyclists using this junction at rush hour every day.

A staggering 33% of the rush hour traffic is already cyclists at this junction.

The City of London opposes provision of physically protected cycle lanes.

They have spent ZERO on protected cycle lanes over last 5 years.

May she Rest in Peace

We ask as many of you as possible to attend and to remember them, and reiterate the need for space and decent infrastructure for people that choose to cycle.

Please would you share this information as much as possible?

If anyone knew the victims, and would like to take part in the vigil, you would be more than welcome. We would read out any message / statements on your behalf. But we also respect the privacy of family and friends if they do not wish to take part.
